What to Expect When Booking a Brand Photography Session
Investing in professional brand photography is about more than showing up for a photoshoot. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at my process—from your Discovery Call to final image delivery—so you know exactly what to expect when working together.
What to Expect When Booking a Brand Photography Session
If you're considering booking a branding session and wondering what the process actually looks like, you're in the right place.
Whether you're a personal brand, service provider, product-based business, or growing company, my goal is to make the entire experience feel organized, collaborative, and stress-free. Great brand photography doesn't happen by accident—it happens through intentional planning, strategic storytelling, and a clear understanding of your business goals.
Here's a behind-the-scenes look at what it's like to work together from start to finish!
Step 1: The Discovery Call
Every project begins with a complimentary Discovery Call. This conversation is meant to be a collaboration where we to get to know each other, discuss your goals, and determine whether working together would be a good fit. More importantly, it helps me understand the bigger picture behind your business so I can create images that support your future marketing efforts long after the photoshoot is over. During our call, I'll ask questions about four key areas:
Your Business & Brand Story
Your Ideal Client
Your Visual Preferences
Your Future Goals
Step 2: Your Custom Project Proposal
Following our Discovery Call, you'll receive a customized proposal outlining the scope of your project.
Inside your proposal you'll find:
Recommended package options
Any additional services discussed
Project contract
Retainer invoice
Clear next steps
I've intentionally designed this process to be simple and easy to navigate, so you can confidently move forward without feeling overwhelmed by paperwork or logistics!
Step 3: Planning & Pre-Production
Once your retainer is paid, the real magic begins. I firmly believe that successful brand photography is:
50% planning + preparation, 50% execution
The planning phase is where we transform ideas into a strategic visual plan. Every brand project includes a customized Photo Style Guide that serves as the blueprint for your session. Depending on your project, your planning materials may include:
Detailed shot lists
Brand storytelling concepts
Timeline creation
Location planning
Prop recommendations
Color palette guidance
Visual inspiration
Content goals
This phase helps ensure every image we create has a purpose and supports your business objectives. If your project involves a venue, models, hair and makeup artists, stylists, or other vendors, I'll coordinate those moving pieces as well. I'll also handle any necessary permissions and model releases so everything is organized and legally protected before shoot day arrives.
Step 4: Styling & Creative Direction
One of the most common concerns I hear from clients is:
"I don't know how to pose."
Good news—you don't have to! My job is to take the vision we've created together and guide you through bringing it to life. Throughout the session, I'll provide creative direction, styling support, posing guidance, and feedback so you never feel like you're left wondering what to do next. My goal is for you to show up feeling prepared, relaxed, and confident, knowing that every detail has already been thoughtfully planned!
Step 5: Photoshoot Day
The day you've been waiting for is finally here! By this point, most clients tell me they feel surprisingly calm because so much preparation has already happened behind the scenes.
You'll receive a reminder before your session, and once photoshoot day arrives, you can focus on showing up and being present while I take care of the rest.
My approach is collaborative, encouraging, and natural. Whether we're photographing products, documenting your services, or creating brand imagery that tells your story, I'll guide the process every step of the way.
The result? Authentic images that feel professional while still feeling like you.
Step 6: Editing & Image Delivery
After your session, I'll carefully review and edit your images to ensure they align with the vision we created together. Unlike many photographers, I don't limit the number of images you receive.
That means you'll receive all of the useful, marketable images created during your session—not an arbitrary number chosen from a larger collection!
Within approximately four weeks, you'll receive access to your private online gallery where you can easily download and begin using your images.
Your gallery images can be used across your website, social media, marketing materials, email campaigns, and other approved uses outlined in your licensing agreement.
Your Images Were Created to Work for Your Business
Brand photography is about more than having beautiful images.
It's about creating visual assets that build trust, communicate your value, tell your story, and help your business grow.
When you invest in professional brand photography, you're investing in a strategic library of content designed to support your marketing for months—and often years—to come.
And that's exactly why I put so much emphasis on the planning process before I ever pick up a camera.
